NEW DATE AND VENUE IN FUJIAN FOR VOLVO CHINA JUNIOR MATCH PLAY

Fujian (CHINA): The best young golfers in China will finally come together for the 2018 Volvo China Junior Match Play Championship when the annual tournament is staged from December 9-12 at Southern Wood Golf & Country Club in Fujian.

Originally scheduled for November, the event was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances but with the combined efforts of the Chinese Golf Association (CGA), the Volvo China Open team and the Fujian golfing community the four-day tournament will now go ahead as planned.

It will be the first time in the event’s 14-year history that the Volvo China Open qualifying tournament for the cream of the nation’s junior golfers will be staged in Fujian with the actual time and full field of 32 golfers to be announced in due course.
Tournament Director Chris So said he was grateful for the way all of the parties involved have come together for the benefit of junior golf in China.


“It’s the first time we have had a problem like this when staging the Volvo China Junior Match Play Championship,” he said. “Fortunately, everyone has pulled together and special thanks go to the Southern Wood Golf & Country Club who have agreed to host the event.
“It has been a difficult and frustrating few weeks but with the assistance of all involved I am sure we are going to witness a memorable and highly successful tournament.”
As a venue, Southern Wood Golf & Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in China is a true golfing challenge for the up-and-coming young stars of the future. Built in 1996 and designed by Koji Masuda, the course is located in Zhang Zhou and measures 7,324 yards in length.


“It us our pleasure to host the Volvo China Junior Match Play Championship and we hope that the players and their families will enjoy the experience, ”said Southern Wood Golf & Country Club Chairman, Mr. Huang Xin-xiang. “This is not only a great way to promote junior golf in Fujian, it is also an ideal opportunity showcase the excellent facilities and services at the club.”
In all 16 boys and 16 girls selected by the organizing committee and ranked according to the China Golf Association Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Ranking and the R&A Men’s and Women’s Amateur Ranking will play in the tournament. The winner of the boys’ title will secure a place in the 2019 Volvo China Open – sanctioned by The European Tour– while the girls’ champion will play in the Volvo China Open Pro-Am.
