Entries Now Open For 2017 Volvo China Open Qualifying

Entries are now open for the four 2017 Volvo China Open’s Qualifying tournaments to be held from February to April. There will be one international qualifying and three domestic qualifying.

The full schedule and host venues are as follows:

Hong Kong International Qualifying:  Feb 22 - 24, Hong Kong Golf Club
BRC Grand-Hill Qualifying:  Mar 13 - 15, Chengdu Grand Hill International Golf Club
Shanghai Tianma Qualifying:  Mar 27 – 29, Shanghai Tianma Country Club
Tianjin Binhai Forest Qualifying: Apr 10 – 12, Tianjin Binhai Forest Golf Club

For two of the venues, Hong Kong Golf Club and Chengdu Grand Hill International Golf Club, it will be their first time to host a Volvo China Open Qualifying event while for Shanghai Tianma Country Club and Tianjin Binhai Forest Golf Club it will be the third and second year in a row respectively.

Each event will be held over three days and will consist of a practice round on day one and a 36-hole gross stroke play competition on days two and three. International Qualifying is open to a maximum of 60 eligible players, professional and amateur, male and female, while each of the three domestic events is open to a maximum of 125. The leading three finishers at each qualifying (a total of 12 qualifiers across the four events) will gain a place in the 23rd Volvo China Open in April.

Entry applications should be submitted on-line no later than nine days before the start of each event and the names of eligible applicants will be posted on the official Volvo China Open website to confirm receipt of entry.

Qualifying was introduced in 2005, the year after Volvo China Open moved on to the European Tour schedule. It was introduced to offer a chance to a much wider cross-section of golfers to earn a spot in China’s own Open Golf Championship, more in line with what the world’s top Open Championships do. This openness has played a major part in Volvo China Open’s popularity and has led to a much wider understanding worldwide that it is the Open Golf Championship of China.

Over the last 12 years, there have been 46 qualifying tournaments and 145 places in the Volvo China Open have been won through these. It has enabled qualifiers of varied ages and backgrounds to compete in the Open alongside the stars of the European Tour including the 2015 and 2016 champions, Wu Ashun and Li Haotong, who themselves were qualifiers back in 2008 and 2013 respectively. For many ambitious young golfers, Volvo China Open Qualifying tournaments have become annual must-play ones, regarded as one of the must-take routes to higher-level international tournaments.

The Volvo China Open is organized by the China Golf Association, and is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and OneAsia. The 23rd Volvo China Open will take place from April 27- 30, 2017 at Beijing Topwin Golf Club and will be Volvo’s 86th tournament on the European Tour with a significant prize purse of RMB 20 million.
